This exhibition by husband and wife duo, Penelope and Darren Oates explores the enduring dialogue between land and form through a series of paintings, drawings, fine furniture and sculpture. Penelope’s works are characterised by a hybrid blend of drawing and painting as she burns into the painted surface with a heated soldering iron creating her unique tapestry-like, highly detailed works. In addition to these evocative landscapes, the exhibition will showcase finely crafted furniture and sculptural pieces by Darren whose bespoke tables and sculptures crafted from Australian native timbers, pay homage to the curves and organic lines that echo the topography of the land.
This is the second invitation Penelope and Darren have gladly accepted to exhibit as a duo show the Milk Factory Gallery. Together, they hope this collection will speak to the audience of a reverence for both craft and fine art and allude to the quiet stories held within both wood and the painted surface.
